Hey Jon, nice to know you have a blog! Well, yes, it is a little more in depth than myspace. To add friends, and such to the sidebar on your page requires a little knowledge of computer code...which I barely know, however I just copy. What you have to do is go to the "template" tab where you would add a new post at. From there you'll have a screen with what looks like a bunch of meaningless computer code, but it is how the computer identifies what you want it to do. SO you'll have to scroll down and identify where the code is for your "links," "friends," etc and whatever else you want to add. You just have to copy what they have written for code and paste it and change it how you desire. You'll have to just see the pattern and copy that whole section nd paste it and modify it how you like. Easy as pie. Use the help function - it can be useful to tell you specific code.
